Calico Crossroads Newsletter
April-May 2008
Hi Ladies,
Wow, how fast is 2008 going? Or is it just me? Hmmm maybe just me? I cant believe that we are into May already and I haven’t done this newsletter yet!!
I have heaps to tell you, beginning with our Marlene King Landscape Workshop. We had a great time..and all who participated had a lot of fun, learning new techniques and Marlene is so calm and collected, making it a really relaxed weekend. Thanks to Marlene for coming to visit and we will gladly have you back whenever you can spare the time. Sadly for us , she is back off to the warmer climate for winter, so have fun Marlene, and thanks for a great workshop!!
Calico Crossroads feel very privileged to also have Deborah Louie visiting in June. Deb was featured in the March edition of Quilters Companion. She is a member of the NSW Accredited Teacher Special Techniques Machine Quilting. Deb is a domestic machine quilter and has taught all over the country. Classes, both here in Exeter and at George Town , are full. Can’t wait for that one, and if all is successful, then Deb is returning in January for a follow up class for us.
My friend Sandra and I have just returned from our trip to Thailand and Vietnam . Wow, what a reality check! If you ever feel like you have had enough, have it tough, sick of life, work too hard, blah blah,,then this is the trip for you!!! We had a wonderful time, but were ever so grateful to return to our families and homes. Many times I have heard ppl say that seeing poverty in person is different than on telly, how right they were.
First we visited Thailand , Bangkok , where I visited with my friend Yoo, who lived with us a few years ago. It was wonderful to see her. She took us to temples, bridge over the river kwai, the Kanchanaburi Cemetery , where I happened to meet the curator. He asked where we were from, we said Tasmania and he said come I will show you something. Oddly enough he took us straight to the headstone of Private Freeland of Rosevears. Isnt that amazing? He filled us in with all the information on Private Freeland, and asked if we could contact the family so they can give them any further information on this man. Even so far away, the world seems like a small place .
After 5 days in Thailand , we flew to Hanoi in Vietnam . Motorcycles!!! OMG!!!..I had to have 4 stubbies on the first afternoon just to get the courage to cross the road!!!!!
We visited the Sa Pa Mountains, which was a most formidable landscape, and then to Halong Bay which was equally wonderful. Vietnam is a beautiful country, and we are already thinking about where we will go next…rofl.
So, cut a long story short, we are back, both back into our work, and very grateful for what we have.
We have some new things happening in store, but cant fill you in on those just yet…we need to get some dates down . We have a special on, if you buy 50cm fabric instore you receive one homespun fat quarter of your choice for free. Over 120 colours to choose from. And don’t forget the Judith Rothermel Fabrics are on special for just $12pm. Bargain!!!
New fabrics are flooding into store, so come in and check them out. Please remember, that with the new fabrics, we are gradually working on different fabric ranges in both George Town and Exeter .
On Saturday May 3 rd George Town Wilted Quilters had their friendship day. What a huge turnout!! Over 100 ladies were in town and had a fun day of show and tell , and chatting and quilting. Congratulations to the ladies for a great day!
So until next time, take care ladies, happy stitching, and cya in store!!
Cheers
